Apprehensive about your new kitchen?

Installing an entirely new kitchen can be daunting. You want to make sure that you get the kitchen of your dreams within budget without any nasty surprises. Stephen and Cherry Hunt from East Kilbride knew this all too well, having had a previously disastrous experience with another local kitchen and bathroom company.

The couple were understandingly cautious when they decided to try again, as they wanted to be sure they got the right company for them. However, the team at Mulberry Kitchen Design soon put them at ease as we spoke about the different design options available to them. The Hunts were confident that we could deliver the results they were looking for, and so the team got to work.

Some descriptionThe first aspect of the new design was to move the sink over to the window but at Stephen and Cherry’s request is was moved back to the position of the old kitchen as they felt this was the best way to utilise cupboard space. We also removed the old ‘T&G’ ceiling and replaced it with a nice new plastered ceiling. Unfortunately, the sub floor had previously taken in a lot of water and was sagging. As a result, the floor had become warped and needed to be replaced. The team replaced half of the chipboard flooring to reinstate the integrity and structure of the floor, resulting in a nice flat surface for us to lay a beautiful Pergo flooring in mountain grey oak.

The next step was to strip down all of the wallpaper. We also redid all the electrics for the kitchen in order to provide the Hunts with a few extra power points. After this, the team plastered the entire kitchen and removed the old PVC windowsill so the Hunts could have the whole sill area tiled. Some descriptionSome description

A stunning Milbourne Alabaster kitchen from the second nature range was installed, along with stunning worktops in Duropal Plum. T bar handles, 400 mm in length, add a contemporary flair to the design, while the wall units made the most of every space the room had to offer, as the Hunts required as much cupboard space as possible we added extra large 900mm high units utilising every bit of space in the kitchen although this did pose Cherry with a little problem reaching the top as they were so big.

The team removed the old radiator in the kitchen which took up much needed space, and instead installed two stylish plinth heaters connected to the heating system to keep down the running costs. A stunning Hotpoint integrated 50/50 fridge freezer was chosen as well as a Hotpoint integrated washing machine. The kitchen appliances were complete with a shining new Hotpoint single oven and a Hotpoint 60cm ceramic hob with a shimmering stainless steel surround.

As well as this, a Blanco Nova sink was installed in a warm sand colour, complete with Blanco Cleo taps. LED spotlights and under lights were chosen to give a warm glow to the kitchen, and even though they are more expensive to install, overall LED options are much cheaper to run, and the bulbs will last years instead of months.

Travertine tiles were chosen to complete the beautiful new kitchen. The team also painted the entire kitchen, installed all new facings and skirting boards and installed a new windowsill. Overall, the Hunts were absolutely delighted with the result, and were especially pleased that we provided samples for everything so the Hunts didn’t need to leave their home. Not only were the Hunts ecstatic about their new kitchen and the high quality of our products, but their mum was very impressed too, so impressed in fact that she decided to get one of our kitchens as well, which we are fitting next week!

Stephen and his team have recently designed and installed our superb new kitchen and we are delighted with every aspect and extend our heartfelt gratitude to the whole team. From the first thought of our 'kitchen vision' to the minute details and very minor hiccups, Stephen was there, literally every step. He patiently and conscientiously executed the majority of the work personally and is actually on site to oversee everything else. It ran like precision clockwork. Also, Stephen's cabinetry skills are exemplary and he is undoubtedly deserved of his Master Craftsman award. The application of skills extends to every aspect of his work; planning, design, customer care, materials, workmanship …..everything was as described; outstanding. Stephen's team were punctual, friendly and completed their part of the kitchen to top class standards. Our kitchen is a pleasure to be in now although we still can't remember where we put everything!
