Hot Kitchen Trends for 2016

Hot Kitchen Trends for 2016

Everyone has some idea of what the perfect kitchen should look like, but a little inspiration doesn’t hurt! From wide, open plan spaces to traditional designs with a modern twist, check out two of our favourite trends in kitchen design to help you plan for the year ahead.

Trend #1: Open plan kitchens

Open plan kitchens are still on trend for 2016, thanks to their multiple capabilities. An open plan kitchen gives you the space to cook, entertain and have room for all the family, making the kitchen the very centre of your home and a true living space rather than simply a work station.

Even if your home does not have an open plan kitchen, it might be a lot easier to get one than you think. A trusted home insurance survey shows that one in five households in the UK have removed a wall in order to accommodate an open plan kitchen with a dining and living space.

The appeal of this is obvious – open plan kitchens allow you to be a part of the action of your household while you cook, entertain or while the kids do their homework. Instead of being restricted to one room, you are suddenly in the very centre of everything. This is a major plus for families and those who love to entertain, so if a modern, light and bright living space appeals to you, then an open plan kitchen is a trend that could work wonders.

Trend #2: Contemporary country kitchens

If, instead of open plan, you prefer large, country-style kitchens, then do we have a trend for you!

Contemporary country kitchens are the perfect way to combine that rustic farmhouse aesthetic with modern living. Blending traditional with contemporary can create a beautiful alternative to a sleek gloss kitchen. Designing these kitchens is all about creating a harmonious atmosphere, letting natural materials flow effortlessly alongside high tech appliances. Think rustic woods and whitewashed walls combined with metallic appliances and copper tones, resulting in a sleek and polished finish.

Open shelves, high beams and stone floors add to the country charm, while this year’s on trend hues of grey, classic white, cool pale green and soft muted taupe keep things fresh and clean – and are set to lead the way in interior design.

To make a statement, add a splash of colour with cool yellows and mustard. Our lovely friends at Second Nature are launching a Safron door shortly as well as some other interesting colours, and we can't wait to get a peek at them!
